· 1. What
type(s) of writer do you consider yourself to be?
Considering
I waited until the last minute to write this blog, I would say I am a
procrastinator. I typically won’t start
the paper until the day before, or even the night before. Sometimes I will look at the assignment immediately
after it is assigned and think about some ideas I want to discuss, but I never
actually start the assignment until a day before it is due.
· 2. Does
your writing process include several of the above approaches? If so, which
ones?
When
I write, I rarely ever write a rough draft.
I just write the final draft and reread it once for errors then turn it
in. This is because I do it the night
before and just want to get it done. So
I normally go with the procrastination approach. On the assignments I do
significantly better on, I write a rough draft and revise it on my own and send
it to my dad to give me advice. So I exhibit some traits of a heavy reviser on
occasion.
· 3. Does
your writing process seem to be successful? What are the strengths and
weaknesses?
I’d say I am a mediocre writer. The amount
of time I put into my writing is very minimal, but I’ve never been terrible on
an assignment. When I do begin writing,
I focus and work hard on the easy until it is done. I put away all distractions, and focus on the
assignment for the amount of time it takes to finish. Being a procrastinator is my weakness. I would do much better on my writing
assignments if I spread out the time I spend on the assignment throughout the
week opposed to cramming it into one writing session.
· 4. Do
you think it might be beneficial for you to try a different approach? Why or
why not?
I
would benefit from the attributes of a heavier planner. I do better on the assignments I plan out,
and take the time to think about what direction I want to take the assignment. It typically takes me longer to write my
essay because I haven’t really thought about what I want to discuss. Planning before I write my final draft would
reduce the time it takes me to complete the assignment and also help my write a
more cohesive essay.
