My Interviewees as Professional Writers

I never really thought about writing has a major part of the nursing field when I was deciding my major.  After project 1, I realized that communication between fellow nurses, perspective nurses, and outside parties is a very important aspect of the nursing profession.  I have found that social media sites, magazines, and journals are all important ways of these communications.

1.   Give us the name of each interviewee and write a short summary of the kinds of professional publications they've authored (according to their website, CV and/or other easily findable online resources that list their publications). You don't need to include all the bibliographic information for their publications, just the basic facts.

Patricia Daly currently has no publications listed.

A lot of Jane Carrington’s publications are about communication within the nursing field.  This is good for this project because a main topic is about how people within my field communicate.  She has released various Nursing Administration Quarterly’s.  One of these quarterly’s is about nurse-to-nurse communication.  A lot of her others are also about communication within the nursing field and the use of new technology in the nursing field.

2.   Track down a few of their publications online. Be sure to examine at least two different publications by each interviewee (and hyperlink us to the two examples for each). What professional genres has each interviewee written in? Explain how these genres differ from each other, according to conventions, formatting, techniques, content, and anything else that seems relevant to describe.

Dr. Carrington is the only interviewee that has any publications. Her publications are only articles of journals.  These publications are mainly accessed online and are informative pieces about technology, informatics, and communication in nursing.

3.   What is the context surrounding the two different pieces published
by each of your interviewees? (See the bulleted questions on Student's Guide page 180 for specific questions about
context). Cite specific details from the pieces in your answers.

“Development of a Conceptual Framework to Guide a Program of Research Exploring Nurse-to-Nurse Communication”
·      Date of Publication: Feb 10, 2014
·      Medium used: Article in a scholarly journal. The article is part of a journal that relates to nursing informatics.
·      Dr. Carrington got her PhD in informatics so it was clearly a subject she was interested in.  She said that “nursing informatics has been described as problem based rather than theory driven”.  Providing a foundation for students instead of a “learn as you go” method, could be considered extremely helpful.
·      Research in the nursing field is a similar topic.
·      For students, providing a framework for new methods and technology is important.
·      Dr. Carrington went to school and got her PhD in informatics so this is something she finds very important.

4.   What is the overall message of each piece? How did you decide this? Cite specific details from the pieces in your answers.

In the article “Development of Conceptual Framework to Guide a Program of Research Exploring Nurse-to-Nurse Communication”, Carrington provides a foundation for researching informatics.  Informatics is the science of communicating the information and technology in the nursing field to promote the health and well-being of communities world-wide. In the abstract, Carrington writes that the article supports a more theory guided way of approaching nursing informatics as opposed to the problem-based way she claims is more prevalent.

5.   What purpose is each piece trying to achieve? Cite specific details from the pieces in your answers.

The framework piece is trying to giving students or those interested in a foundation for nursing informatics.
